Gateaux Piment (Chilli Cakes)
Gâteaux Piment or as also known as 'Chilli Cakes', are a much-loved Mauritian snack, often compared to falafel, but with their own island character. Made from split peas, herbs and chilli, they’re shaped into small fritters and fried until golden and crisp. Crunchy on the outside, soft and fragrant inside, they’re gently spiced rather than overpowering and traditionally eaten hot, dipped into coriander chutney for an extra burst of flavour.
